Today I share two recordings of songs that have remained unreleased online until now. I recommend you listen with headphones if you want to inhabit the atmospheric effect.
These songs are apart of a forthcoming project (not Birth Dues) of music and lyrics I composed and authored. I have insinuated these songs into live performances over the last couple years. I recorded what is embedded below on May 25th, 2023 because I wanted to have a recording of a dress rehearsal to reflect upon before for my performance on May 26th at 3rd Eye Gallery in Hoosick Falls, NY.
I found these recordings today as I sift through files on my computer, and think you may enjoy to hear them.
The Revival:
For this song, the end of a phrase is the beginning of the next phrase: a vortex of thought. Perhaps akin to a stream of consciousness, I suppose. Most statements are also unanimously questions.
I have added the text of The Revival below for contributing subscribers to access. I have played with various enjambments over the years and for this version employ the form of a prose-poem fractured by couplets.
Lamentation:
Below is an improvised Bass solo which recalls a few motifs used in another song of the forthcoming album I mention. I used my Breedlove Fretless Acoustic Bass to accompany me on both songs.
These recordings are unedited, unmixed, and unmastered. The sound created between me and the architecture of the room I resonated in and the microphone that translated these expressions promotes the Effect.
I recorded in “The Lens,” a space located at Bennington College used for meditation, prayer, tranquil gatherings, and singing, renowned as it is a place with exceptional virtuous acoustic qualities. In “The Lens,” one may draw a wheel so a square sun-roof (the Lens) is opened for sky to gleam through, unfiltered by no glass. When clouds pour rains and the Lens is left open, water leaves a beautiful pattern on trapezoidal walls.
Thank you for attending. Enjoy lyrics to The Revival.
